    VNT Turbo Info

I just bought a '96 Defender 130 DC 300Tdi...........'So What', you say !!!!........'What's this got to do with Isuzu Landys', you say !!!!

Well, it just happens to be fitted with a brand new Garrett GT2556V VNT (variable nozzle turbo), and Alisport radiator and full sized Alisport intercooler.............So, naturally, I couldn't help but wonder how this setup would work on the Isuzu. More boost at lower RPM ????
But I've been having trouble finding the basic specs of the turbo on the net (A/R etc) to see if it would actually suit the 4BD1T. It's not even listed on Garrett's site for some reason.
I bought the 130 for a daily driver, and it's in good condition mechanically, so I'm happy to drive it as it is, but it's got 250k on the clock. So, eventually, when things start to go wrong, or it drops it's guts, I couldn't see myself spending money on a Tdi rebuild, but I can easily imagine dropping an Isuzu in it .
We've often discussed around the campfire how good a 130 would be as a touring vehicle with a decent donk in it..........not that I'll be getting rid of my County of corse.

from memory and I'll have to confirm with the ricers at work...

the first 2 numbers of vnt series from garret roughly approximat the old numbers.

in this case it would roughly approximate a t25 which is usable on the suzi 3.9

As Blknight said, the first two numbers are the family, but the second two are the compressor wheel diameter in millimetres (56mm).

The GT2256V should be a pretty good match for a 4BD1T, I have a similar turbo (different mounting flange but same model) which I've been intending to fit for the last 2 years or so.

The model information is all engraved into a flat section on the compressor cover. Tell me what's written there and I'll try to find what else that turbo is used on.

Just to clarify Murray, is it a 2256 or 2556? The GT2256V was fitted to the later 2.8 litre (known as HS2.8TGV) capacity version of the 300TDi as made variously by International/Navistar and now MWM International.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the A/R stamped on the side of the housing? Maybe give Allisport an email confirming specs?

0.64 on the exhaust side, you can see it in the pics.
It seems to be identical spec to my merc turbo and the HS2.8 turbo with just different flanges.

murray, wouldn't mind seeing some pics of how the actuater works. I have a GT2260VNT off a 3.0l iveco daily to go on my 4bd1, its A/R is 64 from memory, guessing this turbo should work ok!?

That would appear to be the 130 that xrayxray on here had.

I'm pretty sure that it is a 2256. The A/R is cast on the turbine and compressor housing. '64' and '52' respectively.

I think it would spool up quicker and produce a bit more boost than the stock turbo on a 4BD1T, but not large enough to get the best out of a good 3.9 litre diesel. Plenty of small 2.x litre European diesels are using GT2256V turbos going from my Garrett catalogue.

I'll have a look for any info on the turbo itself when I get a chance. Haven't had time to 'play' with the 130 yet

Yep, that's the one. Trucked it down to Vic. I'll be selling my Td5 Xtreme once I get the 130 on the road.
