It'll take longer to spool due to the loss of exhaust pulse strength and loss of heat on the way to the turbine. There are very good reasons all engine makers fit the turbos as close to the exhaust as they can. |

Mine is a Mike Vine fitted T3 as Matt said and it works very well. There is absolutely no lag with the turbo fitted close to the inlet manifold.I dont have an intercooler and the egt's are good. This is the second engine I have had this turbo on with nil problems. The reason I went this type turbo conversion was that I wanted to keep the factory aircon setup and this was the only one I could find that allowed me to do it. I have the short pipe from the exhaust manifold to the turbo heat tape wrapped all the way and I stipulated that I wanted the exhaust to go under the bellhousing back to the passenger side. Mike did a very professional job on the setup and there is no problems with the oil filters (turbo ones as mine is a '95 model motor with the pencil type injectors). Originally it was a 10psi setup but I have tweaked it to 15. I can recommend this turbo setup having done around 550K on it.

Working better means less backpressure for the same boost, earlier spool and later choke. I can understand the attraction of keeping aircon etc in factory locations too. |

After talking to Brian, I got Mike Vine to fit a turbo to my 110. I decided to use a top mount Isuzu manifold. The T3 small exhaust AR fitted to Brian's 110 is no longer available as far as I can tell. Mike had done quite a few 110s using his unique turbo on the inlet side setup. He is very experienced at what he does, and probably been doing turbo fit outs for 20 or 30 years.
