    Problem solved

So at 21 days old and spending a very disheartening total of 13 of those days in the workshop, the fault has been identified. After many days of systematic tests, LRA report analysis and subsequent tests, all of which proved faultless, the tech moved the car late yesterday afternoon and the dash lights came on. So he decided to step outside the square and do a bit of his own 'process of elimination' fault finding, separating the front half of the vehicles Canbus network from the back half of the car. A phone call at 6.00pm confirmed he had finally found an actual problem. This was a long time coming and my worst fear was that nothing definitive would be found and I would get the car back to see how it faired. The dealer did not disagree with my comment, that if that was the case and it faulted again, I would be handing back the keys and waiting another 4 months for a replacement vehicle. I have been an electrician for over 30 years and have worked on some very complex systems in my time and across many different fields of the trade, so I thoroughly understand the difficulty of finding an intermittent fault and as such was very patient and calm throughout this whole ordeal. What he (the tech - my newest best friend) found, was where the rear a/c unit is located behind the left cargo space panel, a cable loom that runs under the a/c unit was being squashed and rubbing on the metal body, wearing through the Canbus cables and intermittently shorting to earth. He has moved the a/c unit slightly higher, put some of that door seal strip over the panel joint edge and insulated the worn/cut insulation. Car was cleaned and I was just as excited to get her back as the day I picked her up. The report will be sent to LRA who will most likely include the cause for diagnosis of future similar issues, but for any MY14 owners out there with rear a/c, keep this in mind if you ever lose your dash cluster, stereo, a/c, windows and door locks. Just thought I'd also mention that the Dealer - NT Automotive Group and Land Rover Australia provided excellent service and were very sympathetic to my situation. I drove a brand new BMW series one as a loaner, sort of nice, but so glad to be back in my D4.
    Cheers Mungus.

That was good work by the tech.

I had a long-term problem with a TD5 D2 that a new mechanic started to work with me and get stuck into looking properly for the cause until his boss told him to stop wasting time. I suspect that mechanic didn't last long at that dealership.
