    Fitting UHF / CB radio

    All,

has anyone fitted a UHF to a later model L322? I've got a 2012 model RRV; I'm fitting a GME TX3345 which has the controls on the mic piece so the unit - which is damned small - will hide soemwhere, under the dash ideally (maybe top glove box). Bit nervous where though with the latest RR having airbags everywhere, including a knee airbag for driver now

Also, was thinking of mounting aerial on a mounting point (GME or similar) threaded into rear most, drivers side, roof rack mouning point - and running aerial cable down through the back pillar....although thats a long way from the head unit......? Anyone done this?

    cheers

    Chris

Did this in my 03 model - it still has airbags everywhere, but it was an easy job. Check out the thread - How to - "No Holes" CB Radio Installation

The only thing I have done since was mount a mic clip above the holder where the mic is. This allows the holder to be closed with the wiring out one corner and it sits there very nicely. It is easy to use by both the driver and passenger.

Here's a quick pic of how it is now. And yes, this makes it 'a not quite no holes' installation, as I screwed the mic holder on. Sorry about the quality of the pic - the ipad camera struggles with some light conditions...

the radio Gav used is the way to go. Main unit hidden away all controls on the mic.

There is also a heap of room behind the panel in front of your knees to install one, cable exits beside the center console, can screw a clip to the center console tucked up under the dash.

Another option is the little cubby box where the OBD2 plug is. The mic could be stored in there, but that means the passenger would not be able to reach it. I have my trailer brake controller in there.

Have the same radio as pictured by Gavin/Bacicat, I have an 02 so probably have less fruit and more space than you by a mile but my handpiece fits inside the covered cup holder in the middle of the center console, so can't be seen at all when the lid is over it.

I ran a lead under the door scuff plates, through the back and up through the gromet at the back the wiper washer line runs through, and then along the roof rack divot and bolted a mount into a rear roof rack mounting point.

I really like gavin's front mount but I don't have the metal working confidence/skills he has.

You can just make out my mount in the attached pic.

I have mounted my GME 3100 between the passengers seat and the trans tunnel.
Mounted the aerial on the range rover bull bar, ran the lead through the fire wall behind the battery (rubber grommet with positive lead from battery)

I dont like the way the positive lead on the battery runs right over the top of the negative terminal, I notice Mr BMW has put some extra insulation on this potential contact point

I had removed that stupid cartridge type cup holder from the center console and piggy backed the power off the cigarette lighter power inside the center console....just got a bit of angle alloy and glued the cut cover to the uhf...dodgy but easy
