My Pride and Joy

Just a few photos of my D1 - after 5 years of slow upgrading etc etc I finally fitted some 35's this weekend.

So now I can have more fun.

Great forum - I've learned heaps - so thanks.

I havn't driven it yet - family commitments on the weekend. I'll let you know.

Details of rear bumper are in this thread on this forum PM me if you want more info. Disco 1 Custom Rear Bar

I have to put a plug in for the guys who supplied the tyres - both my 'road' tyres and the Silverstones.
http://www.melbournetyres.com.au/
They do a lot of street tyres but are VERY happy to help with ANY tyre things. Talk to Greg - he's got lot's of mates in the 4wd game and has been in the business for years. Just ask him about my Disco. He's very helpful.

Thanks

Looks bloody good mate. Very similar to where I'm looking at going. I'm thinking of the lower low range t/c gearing rather than the 4.11s though. Have you upgraded the CVs or front axles?

Did you get the wheels from the smae guys doing the tyres? Thinking of the Silverstones myself.

Peter,
it was suggested that I get a set of crawler gears in the transfer case and get a defender transfer case because they have lower gearing. It would have cost HEAPS more.
The Ashcroft C+P's are the strongest in the world.
I have always had to balance performance with my limited budget - and I know 'doing it cheap' can sometimes prove more expensive - but I'm happy with what I have achieved.
Good luck and thanks for the compliment.
The rims are Rock Crawler - and I got them from Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown. Greg at Melbourne Tyres can get the rims as well so you could do a deal. I got mine from LRA because the was a shortage of stock in Melbourne at the time (a week before Christmas).

I havn't done anything to the front axle/cv's yet. I don't use the front locker becasue I'm scared I will break something. It's there in case of emergency. I put it in when I changed the C+P's and the ARB diff carrier is heaps stronger than the original LandRover one. A problem with the diff carrier is that under load it can flex slightly and this allows the pinion to 'climb up' on the crown teeth and cause teeth to break. It also saved me from pulling the whole diff apart AGAIN to have the locker put in at a later stage.

I will probably get a spare set of CV's to take along on trips.

Thanks for the compliments

Damn that a nice look, now I am jealous,

As to snapping stuff, so far only one short axle and thats cos i was being a "DILL" and the locker was off. I have both front and rear lockers and with them haven't damaged anything in 6 years.

How much did you have to cut out of the guards? and do you have a body kit?
