Travelling overland from Ireland to Australia in my Defender 110 looking for a reliable reasonably priced landrover mechanic to give the landy a good check up and to fix some oil leaks around Darwin area. Any Ideas????

The LR agent in Darwin is a Nissan dealer from memory and is not even keen on making sales. (I was there in August 2004). Unless a local in this forum can help, you may need to wait until you arrive and scout about. There is bound to be a small workshop with some experience who can check your vehicle over.

Port Darwin Motors was brought out by "kerry's" Ph 08 8980 8080 and is still reluctant to sell/service LR's! Despite buying my 110 from them in 2002 I have had a very indifferent quality of service and limted parts in Town for non military LRs. There will be some very good local LR mechanics just a question of finding them. I am looking as well to solve transfer case and gearbox leaks after 120,000KM. Will let you know if I have any luck. Send us a pm re ETA Darwin, we could have a beer on a verandah somewhere in Darwin.

That sounds about right! The 3 Disco's on the lot (new ones), had spider webs from their mirrors to the ground and were dirty. The guy was not very helpful and did not even walk to my 90 parked off the lot, even though he had enquiries to get one for a fellow caravanner. He just looked from his office and said, "so thats what they look like".
I met the LR honcho in Toowoomba at the D3 launch and told him what I thought. He was going to get something happening up there.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately we must now leave this great 4x4 paradise that is outback Australia and head home (not before visiting the Americas though). Look out for our article in the October issue of LandRover Owner International.

Is there still a LR dealer in Darwin? Nothing on show from what I have seen since recently moving up.

The dealer in Darwin is Darwin Mitsubishi.

Kerry's (Port Darwin) lost the dealership when LRA restructured back in 04 or 05. Darwin Mitsubishi took it on in 05 from memory. I doubt Darwin Mitsubishi know anything about LR prior to the D3 and current RR. The few times I've rung their parts department they haven't really known much.
