    Mysterious Key Fob "Synch" Problem

Hi Guys! Any ideads on this?

The fuel pump was replaced on my MY 2000 P38. Naturally the battery was disconneced during this. On re-connection of the battery my two key fobs will not operate the remote locking. Both fobs are in top condition and I replaced the barreries in one just a month ago. Both show the "red light" when pressed but will not work even when pressed in the vacinity of the RF Receiver. The keys lock and unlock the doors manually and start the car - no problems.

My manual advises that the fob is "synched" by turning it in the ingntion switch and I have tried the "drivers door lock method" of synching the fob - no good! The Test Book shows nothing abnormal in RF Memory and fuses 13 and 14 are OK. The RF Receiver is accepting a signal.

Does anyone know how to test the RF Receiver?

Would re-installing the EKA code fix the problem?

    Cheers, Tony.

The synchronising is done via the drivers door lock.

Lock the door using the key, then while holding it in that position, press the lock button on the remote. Try to do this within a sec or two.

That's all you need to do.

There is also the possibility that you have a failed drivers door lock mechanism. This is a common failure point as it is a combined electronic / mechanical mechanism that is subject to heavy impact of the closing door throughout its life.

Often this unit can fail and go unnoticed until you disconnect the battery or perform some task which requires it to resynch the key.

As a quick check, dislodge the rubber protective boot that covers the wiring between the door and the car body. Locate the 2 multi plugs just inside the car body and inspect them for signs of corrosion / damage. Give them a good clean with some aerosol terminal cleaner and replace.

This can sometimes solve the problem.

For further technical assistance, and if you want the receiver tested I recommend contacting Lee at LabTronics, he helped me solve all of my locking / BECM issues.

Dave, I think you are really "on the money" here! I have been having intermittant problems with the drivers door not putting on the interior light, or messages such as "key in ignition" etc.

Since the problem has arisen the drivers door lock has been working perfectly!

Will have a go at the door lock and let you know the result.

    Cheers, Tony.

Cleaned the two multiplugs in the body/door - no "joy" unfortunately.

Am focusing on the drivers door lock actuator, so lets see if this is the problem? Have had past problems with the interior light not coming on sometimes and all of the door locks opening and shutting on their own. Apparently the drivers door lock can prevent the fob keys synching with the BECM.

    Cheers, Tony.

If you're going to replace your door latch mechanism, have a read through this thread. Some of it may help.
