Cracked RH exhaust manifold at flex joint

Hi All - I have confirmed why my LTFT fuelling is going wildly rich over time. I removed the exhaust heat shield (to install a new engine mount) and noticed this (see pic).

So I have a visible crack in the flexible coupling on the RH exhaust manifold. Its at the bottom of the picture between the two right-most ribs. You can see the black smoke residue underneath.

I doubt its repairable, and I have the local RR wrecker sourcing one. Note that I noticed no exhaust fumes and the ticking sound wasnt really distinguishable from the 492 other sounds.

What I am still confused about is why the LTFT is high on both banks. Perhaps there is another yet-undiscovered crack/leak.

    Mine busted there as well.

How the hell did you get that heat shield off without removing the steering shaft, half your fingers and almost blinding Paul with all the sparks from his Dremel???

Got mine off with a bit of mucking around and turning the steering link as needed to give clearence as you go to pull it up out the top. Need to move the leads and leadclips in the middle to give clearance. My clips swivelled sideways enough to get the shield up and out.

If you can source a new manifold from somewhere please let me know as I cant find new anywhere. Heard that having the split welded wont last very long and not a job you want to do twice.

British atlantic has them, but they are exxy:

Aparantly there was a recall on those RHS manifolds, but I expect any such recall is no longer valid?

Unfortunately the steering shaft has to come out but does make the job a lot easier, I would check to see if you have any broken exhaust mounts as this is usually the reason the manifolds crack, I have just fitted a second hand set to my P38 and is running fine. We had a lot of trouble in finding a new set so went for the second hand set.

Yes, the resellers down here have told me that the exhaust manifold parts have been removed from their pricelists...no reason given.
$1400 US plus shipping is pretty extreme. Then the excpected drama of getting the old ones off with snapping bolts etc. cheaper to get it custom made and ceramic coated and installed for that price.
I believe my exhaust guy is sourcing the manifolds from Hurricane headers in Sydney.

Got my new ceramic headers put on yesterday. They almost look as though they are chromed. Exhaust specialist said that they matched up perfectly and he was very happy with the Hurricane custom parts and especially the ceramic coating. The temperature around the manifold is significantly cooler than before hand. Eventhough the new ones do not have any heatsheilds.
Unfortunately it will still be some time until I will be celebrating as the expected exhaust leak from the manifold pipe was not the problem. The leakage appears to be on the head gasket below, I have read where they can blow outwards so that is the next project.
Funny that the car idles fine and is smooth on acceleration etc and have no running issues with it since the noise started some time ago.
Still it sure is blowing out from down there .
