I suspect that their reviews to camera stuff is going to be a lot more like "Fifth Gear". Not as funny but a bit more informative than TG. The camerwork looks close to the standard of the original, but I doubt whether Charlie, Steve & Warren have anywhere near the on-camera chemistry to really compete with Jeremy, James & Richard. If the program survives the first two weeks (at least being SBS it probably won't get relegated to 11pm if ratings aren't up enough) then they may get the chance to establish an audience without losing too many TG original fans.

Keep in mind that early Top Gear was pretty clunky, almost cringe-worthy at times. It took a while for the presenters to find their groove. When James joined the show, he also started out a little shakey. After a couple of seasons, they hit their stride.

I think first episodes of TGA will compare favourably with first episodes of TG... but people are going to compare it against the most recent TG seasons.

Cant wait to see the stig roll up in some vehicle or other and then shortly after his signature helmet exits the vehicle the rest of him follows in a wife beater, stubbies, thongs with a beer in hand.

or...

the Stig rolls up in a VK commodore, the helmet comes out and is followed by the back of a mullet flannie, tracky daks and ughboots with the dulcet tones of barnsies Working class man hammering out of the doofers.

Either that or it'll be the beer gut, blue singo, thongs and stack hat that epitomises the aussie stig.

Fair comment, although I feel James was bang-on from day one. His very first segment about his own Bentley was a cracker and set the tone for his entire on-camera persona. The guy in series one who James replaced(who's name escapes me) had all the personality of a wet sock.

The problem TG Australia faces however, is that they don't have the luxury of being a bit "clunky" since they are going to be compared the the original TG from day one.

The episodes that have been on recently have been old repeats of season 2, the "black stig" back then was a guy named Perry McCarthy. He got dumped at the start of season 3, when they bought in the "white stig". His identity hasn't been revealed, but from a personal view I think it's probably been different people at different times.

As for top gear australia, I can't wait, I think it will be very interesting.
