Is it just for Land Rovers?

Do you want to use it as a large box trailer?

If I were going to build another trailer I would be doing it very long and as light as possible. The length would be to carry a No.5 right up front with the drawbar over the trailer "A" frame and a pintle or similar to accept the lunette. Then there would be sufficent to carry at least an 88" behind the No.5 and everything in balance.

The deck would be made of 4 angles in the "L" orientation running full length and the punched metal decking you see on the car transporters filling the space between the outer pairs of angle iron. The sides would form an open web truss and I'd probably make it tilt so that I don't need to carry ramps (extra weight).

It would be electric braked on both axles, the axles would be parallel bearings, 50mm+ so everything would be rated to go to 3.5 or 4 tonne. The axles would be as close as possible (less than 1M centres) and probably wouldn't be load sharing. (Because load sharing increases the deck height and makes them hard to man-handle off the tow vehicle.)

I probably would make it wide enough to carry a Series with wide wheels between the mudguards to keep it narrow.

If there was an intention to carry a Perentie or Range Rover the trailer would be different. I would use a small diameter dual wheels off one of the Japanese vans - so long as I could get the tyre load ratings up to the 3.5 ton. The deck would be a shallow beaver tail design with the single axle and tyres under the deck.

Can you imaging going through the toll booth with a Range Rover towing a trailer with an 88" Landy and a No.5 on the back and paying just the car toll fee? ( The 88" would prob have to be a buggy or something with the screen down to keep it below the 2M height )

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

We took the lazy-man's way out, and so my son purchased a second hand car trailer -- with box sides so can be used for both car and box trailer, with Hydraulic brakes, winch, & ramps -- for $1550- . It was advertised on a shopping center notice board. It has had rust pitting though, but has been freshly painted. Now just have to buy an adaptor as it has different light socket cannection to our Land Rover We have the round one with 5 terminals around a center terminal, while the trailer has a long strait one, with terminals in stait line.

Looking forward to seeing what your trailer comes out like.

If its anything like the finish on the camper and other projects I have no doubt its been thought through very very well & will be completed similarly...
