To be a 5 year project
Ok now we are thinking ahead for our retirement on this as we intend on towing a 5th wheeler around the country and intend to do a bit of offroad site seeing.
The plan is to purchase a V8 County/Defender 130 tray top and then strip it rite back and rebuild with all new EQ, any suggestions are welcome because i will like to do this rite the first time and travel trouble free. Engine: Isuzu - pick of 2 6DE1 Diesel This V6 direct-injection engine is characterized by the adoption of a newly developed combustion chamber, electronic control high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system, 4-valve, and an intercooler-fitted variable control turbocharger. The high-performance engine is the world's smallest and lightest diesel engine in its class. Its light weight, which enables the model to power front-wheel drive models, is achieved by the use of aluminum in major constituent parts such as cylinder bodies. It complies with the world's strictest Euro III emission regulations. Main SpecificationsDisplacement: 2,958 cc Max Output: 125 kW (176 PS) @ 4,000 rpm Max Torque: 350 N-m (36 kg-m) @ 1,800 rpm OR 4JJ1-TCS Diesel The 4JJ1-TCS intercooled turbocharged engine was newly developed for all new ELF light duty trucks. In order to achieve fuel economy and cleaner exhaust emissions at a higher level, Isuzu developed this engine with its original cutting-edge technologies and created the world-class diesel with smaller displacement and super-turbocharging. In pursuit of compact, and light-weight engines with higher torque per displacement, various performance required for engines such as fuel efficiency, light weight and environmental friendliness were totally improved. Main SpecificationsDisplacement: 2,999 rpmMax Output: 110 kW(150 ps)@2,800 rpmMax Torque: 375 N-m(38.2 kg-m)@1,600 rpm Transmission: ZF out of a D2 - MR Automotives have done it and love it Lockers: Front & Rear Wnch Alloy wheels (Disco if possible) with the biggest tyres i can go with towing A/C(as the boss has stipulated) Tow ball weight upgraded to 350KG Long Range fuel tank/s Water tank Polly airs This is what i have so far and if anyone has ideas please pass them on and ill add to the list. This has only just gone into the pipe works and will be looking at a 5year plan once a vehicle is purchased, once completed the D2 will be sold and the 130 our means of transport.

One snippet I might throw your way is that I found myself at a Welding shop in Gilgandra & he was extensively repairing a 5th wheeler. He showed me what he cut out & replaced & the original chassis was very inadequate ( it had fractured all around the hitch mounting point).
It had turned ugly over warranty between the owner & distributor as the Yank parent company did'nt cover un sealed road travel for warranty .The yanks have different roads than us it would seem. The owner was claiming all the damage was done on roadwork only. 5th wheelers are fantastic, but do your research on them as well as you are the Landie !!

Mark,
What is the weight of those engines. They say lightweight but I was wondering what that actually was? Edited to add, it seems that the V6 one is used in Saab 9-5 saloons as a diesel option. Rgds Pete. |
