    What's a fair price for my 4.2 Stroker V8

I've posted this in the County section, but it's relevant to Rangies as well.

I've just sold my Rangie, so I no longer have a compatible vehicle for the 4.2 V8 I have in the shed. I'm thinking about selling it, but not really sure what it's worth. The engine came out of my County when I did the Isuzu turbo conversion. It was originally built by Vitesse Engine Developments in Melbourne at a cost of $10,750 (I have original quote from ULR). It's done 240,000ks, but was still going fine before I removed it and still driven regularly. It never broke down on me in the 12 years I had it in the County. The only problem I ever had with it was the Lucas distributor which has since been replaced with a Bosch 'Scorcher' ($500+). It has a near new water pump ($220) and a near new power steering pump ($600+). Twin SU carbys (I was always told they are better than the Strombergs)
I haven't checked the compression yet, but I will when I get a chance. I know the valve guides are a bit worn, so it might need the heads reconditioned. I haven't pulled the heads off to have a look inside yet, but I've always used good quality oil in it (Penrite) and it was regularly serviced and dyno tuned.

Does anyone have an opinion about what it might be worth ??

    Cheers, Murray

Worn out Rover V8. $200 ish. Maybe a bit more if someone is keen on rebuilding a stroker.

I've been offered $200 just for the Bosch dizzy, but I'm not gunna start pulling stuff off it.

My thoughts are the same as BigJon's. At the core you have a 240,000k's engine worth little. If you have any trick bits attached, then you will achieve a better result by removing and selling them separately.

TRS are selling clapped out 3.5L V8's for $1k and I am sure a 4.2L is worth at least that.

Put it in the market section or flea bay.

    Best of luck.

If the engine was going well, no corrosion in the water jacket; not using oil, and reliable it should be worth somewhere in the vicinity of 1000 to 1500 dollars with a top of around1800. Figures based on real world prices being realised for good working older V8s

Do you have a big pond at your place where wood ducks congregate? Send a few along to the Capalaba swap meet on the 31st. I need their money.

Bare engines fetch $500 tops. Fully equipped, fan to clutch and able to be run fetch a decent amount more. Reflecting the value of the accessories.

OK, $201 complete. Saves you pulling out the dizzy and I am removing the rest of the engine for you too as it would basically be useless without the dizzy...........
