mm, the loop on the axle looks like something you have on artillery pieces for manual movement (by people power and ropes).
Brass plate would indicate a WW2 era vehicle I would think.

It looks to me to be a Mobat recoiless rifle carriage. Australia used them (the rifle) for a brief time during the 50's and early 60's. Saw active service in Malaya I believe.

G'day All
Today I decided to go off to work at a very early hour (still dark). As I entered the freeway I noticed a vehicle behind me with 'very close' headlights. Ah I thought, this could only be a Series 2/2A Land Rover ![]() Anyway, to cut a long story short, I followed it into West Perth central and into an underground parking lot. Bugger work...this is far more important ![]() The owner of this Landy has had it as a daily driver for at least 13 years and it has been extremely well looked after. This particular Land Rover has had a Holden 6 install as well as a Fairy overdrive. Sorry about the data plate details. I will get another better one soon. ![]()

Series 2A c6028D 25321157K 25327181D - - - only problem is that the date is listed as 1968 but nomclem plate says 1/69??? chassis 2532781D i checked what i think were other possibilities of that 781 combo eg 137 but this is all that came up.... nice unit..again you are finding stuff...amazing! digger |

I went and had a look at this ex army S3 as it is for sale. It has been left in a wrecking yard by it's owner (scrap metal dealer) who bought it recently as part of a batch of car bodies off one property. He knows little about ex army Land Rovers and unfortunately he has paid too much for it. Asking price is $1,250.00 but I think it is worth around $300 (based on how much will have to be spent on the old girl) as it is in very average condition
![]() What is of interest on the S3 are the following: * Battery cover RHS. Holds 2 batteries. * Brackets (both sides) welded to chassis to rear of each door. They look to be a military mod and probably supported a ROPS set-up. * Marking on doors (R2) and camo scheme. Anyone know what army unit this S3 would have been used by and for what use (double battery set-up etc)? A hint may be from a small oval shaped white sticker located on the drivers door. It is a 'promotional sticker' for a pub in Queensland. Maybe this S3 was originally sold off in Queensland rather then here in West Oz. 28-867...109...76/77...Series 3 GS...6028...37433...94318746...94119562B...Olive drab ![]()

A CREDIT TO THE OWNER A couple of days ago I was told of two ser3 FFR’s in near perfect condition, not far from where I live a 25 min drive, The owner has spent many hours and a lot of money getting them back to near as orginal as possible and today I was privileged to go and have a look at them. One vehicle is fitted out with fully operational radio sets (I know nothing about Radio so don’t ask me what type) These Radios are shortly to be transferred over to the other vehicle so that the tub can be converted back to a standard FFR tub, Steve was missing the radio tables / benches from the vehicles so he has had them made to the exact spec’s as the original from the same material. Both vehicles have brand new bar thread tyres that he imported from the USA at $380 a tyre and more are on the way for the work shop Trl..and of course the canopys have been made to org specs Steve has given me the ok to post pictures of his pride and joys. He also owns a Track Trailer and a workshop Trailer that was away being painted. and I am sure it will end up a real credit to him going by the 2 FFR’s, Steve is chasing a 24 volt generator for one of the vehicles so if any one has a spare it would be going to a good home, the other thing he needs is the internal light that mounts overhead they had a red and white lens today oh and almost forgot 2x civilian Landover’s. |
