S3 GS/Ambo Recovered.

With the help of REMLR member 'DODGE' aka Gary, I was able to recover this S3 GS Ambo hybrid this weekend.

A couple of months ago, I moved the vehicle from it's 'lonely' paddock parking spot to a more suitable location behind a nearby house/shed. I was concerned that it may be targeted by vandals so Gary and I moved it quick smart.

Gary had access to a 4x4 tow truck this weekend so he offered to move the Landy to a more secure suburban location. We had a 'window of opportunity' early this evening so we hooked her up and off we went.

She is now happily tucked away at it's new home.

The S3 has a near new rebuilt 2 1/4 litre motor which I've been told is a 'cracker'. I will hopefully be removing it for installation in LRPV '404' or '170'. The remainder of the vehicle will be sold off.

Stuart,

That is an interesting mix of vehicles.

A Series 3 with an ambulance body and a 4 cylinder motor.

To be quite honest John, there aren't a lot of people over this way that have discovered the 'collectability' of ex army Land Rovers. A few fellas have the odd one or two so there is plenty of scope for ongoing discoveries and building ones own personal collection of Landys.

I'm glad there are a few of you that are finding the 'right' ones
especially the LRPV's.

G'day All, I've been around Land Rovers for more years than I'd care to remember, and during that time had an association with others who like to collect WW2 vehicles, and some of those people rubbish Land Rovers and dismiss them totally, what they seem to forget is that more Armies around the globe (insurgents/guerillas included) have used more Land Rovers than anything.
The Series 2/2A ex military vehicle is a collectable item in it's own right, I like them because of the ease to locate any mech/part etc, some of the WW2 stuff parts are very thin on the ground and Exxy ++++$$$$, which in my case puts me out of the equation, anyway there are probably a lot more lying around just waiting to be rediscovered/restored to their former glory cheers Dennis
PS It will be interesting to see the mix of vehicles at the up coming re-opening of Ft. Scratchley later this month.

G'day Dennis

Thats what I love about ex army Land Rovers, you can still find them lurking about on the streets as well as behind sheds. Try finding 'undiscovered' ex WW2 mil vehicle these days.

Hello all

This weekend I spent some time at Garys house bringing the ambo back to life. As we found out last weekend, she had a case of 'sticky pistons' due to the motor being left idle for some time. During the week, Gary removed the plugs and poured in some Inox allowing it to soak for a day or two. After checking the fuel pump and hoses we cranked her over and she burst into life. A few puffs of smoke and she now runs as smooth as silk.
