What is my 101?

From the information you helpful guru's have given me, I have found out my second 101 (30-248) was delivered as a gun tractor. From this I've assumed it was used as a rapier tractor.
Just after I bought the first 101 (29-417) I was told it was used as a radio truck. The same supplied information says it was delivered as a GS.
Is there any way I can confirm what their roles were?

regards
Mick

On some 101s you can see where different fittings were in the back load area.
ie a rapier resupply 101 had racks fitted to carry the missles and these units have many more pop rivet holes in them.
I think you will find all the aussie army spec 101s were build as 24 volt FFR spec for BAE and then just used as required.
The odd ones out in this country are the private imports of which there are now a few and these will be 12volt or LHD or without winch.

I agree with Ron - all Australian 101s are the same version and used in a three vehicle group. Either 3x 101s or 2x 101s and one 109/110 (depends on who you talk too). The fitout in the back depended on what role the vehicle was playing in the group - but could be changed depending on the circumstances. I have recently met some people who actually drove the 101s in service and they all said that a 109/110 was used with them in the rapier group.

If you look at in service photos it was a minority of 101s that had the aerials but I suspect all were "fitted for but not with" (a good Navy term).
