A dropbear is a legendary............. some would say mythical, native Australian animal that, as legend would have it, drops from the trees onto unsuspecting tourists at night, and devours their brains.

Has quite a few scared witless too.

Good one - liking that idea!

It's in a similar way that we tell American tourists that its traditional to raise two fingers as a salute if you pass a motorway police car on the road...

According to author Terry Pratchett the best defence against drop bears is a very sharp pointy hat.

aussies dont need it because theyve eaten vegemite and drunk beer based yeast products(!) for years!

Bunyip is a good option.

Or perhaps The Yowie. Its the Aussie Bigfoot.

This talk of Dropbears reminds me of the dangerous Hoop snake.
