Other vehicle restorations

Hi all,

As I have a varied collection of vehicles I thought that I would post some pictures of my latest project. The vehicle is a 1943 Clarktor 6 tow motor, date of delivery 22nd Feb 1943. It was used by the 81st Air Depot Group in Brisbane during the war, I have been lucky to find some original WW2 film of this vehicle being used. So far I have spend the last 5 years on this vehicle, there are so few of them around that trying to locate parts is near impossible so searching takes up alot of time.

I hope that you don't mind me posting a non Land Rover subject, I am currently not working on any of my future Land Rover projects so this is all that I am doing and can show. If you have any other vehicles, non Land Rover, that are being restored attach them to this and show off what others are out there.

Peter

Interesting - what motor does this have? Surely not one of their own?

It has a 230ci Chrysler industrial engine, this is the same engine that is in the WW2 Dodge range of vehicles. The engine is coupled to a Clark gearbox, this Clark is the lightweight version weighing 3050lbs. It has single rear wheels and the rear guards are only 1" thick compared to the dual wheel versions which had rear guards upto 6" soild cast.

As to where did I get the original film from, a mate of mine stumbled across it on a series of WW2 films that he has. The films are all from around the Brisbane area during the war. It was only since I have received a copy of the original job card, from 1943, that I as able to match the serial numbers to the one in the film. It was quite amazing to see it moving and to think that it was possibly only a couple of months old when the film was shot.

Hopefully it will be moving under its own power again very soon, I will keep you posted on my progress.

Peter
