G'day Newbs-11A

That is a nice complete vehicle that you have got yourself very complete, if it has the 4 cylinder motor in it, the threaded hole at the end of the oil filter housing is for an Electric oil sender, or the oil light switch is it missing, if so that and the missing rotor button(EDR-98/400051 for a 25D stamped distributor) can be sourced from Kevin Baker (K B Classic Parts) the Lucas man at Witta near Maleny Qld (07)5494 4221 he is there most times, tell him that you are one of the Ex Military Landrover people the 4 cylinder motor should have a mechanical fuel pump on it, but it may have been fitted with an electric one, there is a fuel tap on the front panel of the seat box just below your left leg when in the drivers seat, the tap give you left and right tank pipes, the left side of the dash panel should have a panel with the map light, and 2 switches, 1 for the map light and 1 for fuel tanks, it is a 2-way switch to change the fuel gauge to read left or right tank

your vehicle would be one of the very last to have the old style of grille/headlight set ups, as most of the Suffix "G" vehicles had headlights in the guards, it was originally built as a Negitive Earth vehicle, if the Alternator is a Bosch unit it might only need brushes or the regulator is sick, the rebuilt wiring looks to be very well done and wouldn't be out of place in a restored vehicle, so I wouldn't change it, could you please send me the measurements of the bonnet strap, (windscreen holdown strap) as it is oone of the few things that I am missing from my 1968 GS Landrover, if you have any questions please PM me

cheers

Next time i am out at the property i will take detailed photos and measurments of the bonnet strap for ya uncleho.

Spent the last two days working, well at least trying to work on my rover. The thing holding me back was the missing oil sender unit off the oil filter. Very annoying... I must have been to every shop at Warwick looking for a plug for it to get the engine running, must be some "landrover special thread" as any and all threads/bolts/plugs/connectors would not fit. Got the new rotor arm from Repco - that was the easiest part... Thanks to UncleHo for telling me where to get the electric oil sender from, will give KB Classic Parts a call tomorrow and hopefully have it all up and going tomorrow arvo yay!!!
The dizzy needs a bit of work to freshen up also - bit of surface rust but this should not pose a problem.

Finally got the electric oil pressure sender today. The blokes down at FWD Motors were great (bit closer than Witta too). Only cost $10.40

Yes, the guys at FWD have a large stock of Ex Army parts down there and Will is quite knowledgeable, just let him know that you are a REMLR member as there are a few of us that source parts from there or from British Off Road, and specialist Lucas parts from KB's

cheers

As promised to UncleHo I was out working on the rover today and took some pictures of the Windshield Tie-down Strap. It is not in the best condition and is missing whatever used to be on the running end of the strap but there it is. Hopefully you can make a good judgement on the dimensions (grrrr i left my tape measure at home)

Here are some pics of the ID plates if anyone is interested. Feel free to use these on the REMLR website

Can anyone explain "STH" command... is it as simple as being a vehicle that was issued to a "South Command"????

Yup! sure is that is the into service plate, when ,where, and at what milage it was accepted into service in you case it is 4/12/70 into Southern Command @ 21 miles

BTW that vehicle could have been one of a small quantity that were ordered (contracted) to have the earlier grille and panels fitted as they were destined for SVN as replacement vehicles and had to have the earlier front end, (parts commonality) and H/light protection.

cheers

Great Stuff Newbs-11A same configeration and contract as mine although yours is a year older Uncle Ho I measured my strap (exactly the same as Newbs) The long bit is 21&1/2", the short bit with the buckle is 3 & 1/4" Its all made from the one piece of webbing.

In everyday geographical terms, Southern Command was basically Victoria.
