thanks fellas,
i had put a decent dollop of wd on top, but don;t think its soaked all the way through yet, will keep doing it, I haven;t quite finished the rear end , was just getting ahead of myself.
so far i have only hit the bottom of the shaft with a hefty ball pein hammer, haven't got up to the mine sledge or lump hammer yet.
i'm watching the top each time for movement, and there is a little bit, so will persevere on that one.
and no i am not doing a total strip down, have done the , shackle bushes front and rear, cleaned, replaced if needed, surprisingly the left rear is the only one so far that needed replacing, the rest seemed fairly new,
have been using wd since i ran out of inox, and its working a treat.

thanks for that richard, now i know its a step and a new one will be fairly easy to make, the old bits are still welded under the x-member so getting the size will be easy.
