G'day JohnE
![]() From memory the original tape was slightly sticky when new, but died soon after, I wrapped mine in black Nitto tape when I redid my looms, and it has lasted well, any additional wiring that I put in (reversing, rear fog, reversing beeper) were done in split flex conduit and wrapped in black Nitto tape or similar good quality tape the last couple of rolls of Nitto I got was very thin and stretchy will have to source some slightly thicker gauge tape.It is looking good, and is quite easy once you understand the colour codes, ALL BLACK wire is EARTH, Green/ Purple tracer, is Stop Lights, Green/White = RH Blinker, Green/Red= LH Blinker, RED=Park/Tail lamps, Blue/Red=Low beam, Blue/White=High Beam+Hi indicator, Brown/Black=Horn, Green=Reverse lamps, ![]() That should keep you occupied for a while, (you do have the EMEI G306 for the Military Series 3 don't you if not PM me or call it also has the Blackout wiring diagrams ![]() Bung-Tiddley

got some heatshrink this afternoon after dropping alexander off at work, on the way found some of that split stuff simon mentioned and thought, use that and cover it in nitto as you said uncle.
Did a bit more connections this evening and had another look, then realised i don't have to do the whole loom only to where i have unravelled it, which is roughly where the lead wires come out for the choke switch and thats just forward of the firewall. so i think i'll just go the short distance with nitto and closer to the dash with cable ties,( after all who is going to see that part) thanks uncle but i have the emei for the ser3 ffr and am cross referencing the ser 3 civvy switch diagram, which gives the positions of the wires on which part of the switch. makes it easier as i have now disconnected everything. yep the codes took about an hour yesterday to understand john

All I can say is you're a braver man than i john mate. i'm really dreading that stage. it was scary enough today pulling the head off my engine and seeing the shape of the pistons, can motors really run like that?! anyway i'll know who to ask when i get stuck with the wiring. good luck with the rest of it

Personally when making a loom I dont tape looms at all, I sit them in the slotted condute flex tube stuff and then wrap that in spiral wrap.

Thanks for the comments,
no worries bill just let me know, spent a few minutes today revisiting the loom and found there are two levels of tape on it, aside from the bit i had unwrapped to the firewall gromet, the rest was reasonably intact, so i unwrapped it and found there was a second cover on it, covering the extra wiring for the blackout lights and the power to the trailer plug, ( 3 wires in all, Red/yellow,brown, green) the main loom cover was good and there was even a factory 'wiring checked' sticker, I all I did was rewrap those wiresback to just before the firewall plg with new nitto tape. Too easy, the behind the dash stuff I'll wrap with that that spiral stuff, to keep it together, no need for tape under there. Dave i take it you use the split conduit and the spiral on the work vehicles you have to fix? john

nope, normally relooming a perentie is classed as too big and too time consuming a task for our workshop so it gets farmed out. Even if it wasnt the looms come premade so we dont have to make it from scratch. The workshop Im in currently is a bit of an odd bod, we're authorised to go up to heavy repair if needed (rebuild an engine type stuff) but generaly we dont go much past the easy medium stuff (rebuild a wheel station). we're more about getting the maximum number of vehicles/repairs done in the shortest period of time, parts not withstanding.
The split conduit and spiral wrap is what I do when I do a reloom on a pers vehicle Its a bit time consuming and very fiddly but it looks seriously professional and its easy to support without risking the wires or connections. IF you get really enthusiastic if you notch the conduit where a wire needs to exit you can get it out without distorting the conduit or risking a rub through on the wiring. The spiral wrap is definately over kill but it holds the conduit really well and provides excelent chaffing protection to boot.

thanks dave, I wasn;t sure if you blokes did the full jobs there.
I have used the split conduit before for driving light wiring, your right its definatly easier to put a notch in so it closes back up. I'll probably end up just using the spiral for the under dash part , as opposed to cable ties to hold everything together. john

John,
I did my own wiring on the S2A station wagon - with a good wiing diagram to refer to, it is not difficult. However I think that, particularly behind the instrument panel, the use of cable ties is a very good idea, until you are sure that everything is as you want it. Once you are happy with the setup, it is easy then to convert to the spiral wrap, or leave it as it is. There isn't much room behind the instrument panel, once all the wires are in place and additional spiral wrap will add to the congestion. Jack |

thanks jack, been fiddling this morning , its wet and raining here today again!!
anyway thought the same thing spiral might be a bit of overkill. i worked out this morning a bit of careful wrapping and cable tying would probably be more suitable. john
