Restoration Has Started

Today work started in earnest on my little green machine the rear tub came off with no were the swearing and cursing that I expected, next the seat bench back to the fire wall then I have the wounderfull job of removing the many degrees of surface rust, old crud etc I am sure you all know only too well what I am talking about.
If any one is handy with a welder and could spare an hour or two I would greatly appreciate some assistance I have a stick welder That I can use and a mig but no experence and very little knowledge of how ( The Mig ) to use it correctly .
The laugh of the day had to be my 15 year old grandson underneath on the other spanner He can not understand why any body would want to stuff about with an old car, When I told him that Kings and queens have used Landrovers since have been around he just gave me a big vacant stare them burst out laughing, them I told him they have been used all around the world in many wars and military conflicks , his reply " well how come you dont see them in war movies and computer games
Oh well tomorrow is another day .

Well done Hodgo Welcome to the world of Land Rover restoration.

I know what you mean about the youth of today as my son can't understand my Landy obsession. All he wants is a black Hummer H3 with polished chrome 'spinners' I know what I would rather have

I can see that the next job to do is the rear crossmember A few scrunched up sheets of newspaper and some Polyfiller should fix that 'minor' problem

Keep the pix coming.

G'day All, Good to see another restoration underway, strip it right down to basic components so you can really see what's needed.
IMHO this is the only way to do it, starting the rebuild with chassis looking like new adding something to it everyday and if you do something everyday it soon adds up, anyway mate good luck with it and tell that young fella he isn't watching the right movies, i.e the Odd Angry Shot has Land Rovers and Inter's in it LOL,, cheers mate Dennis
PS dont forget to tie/secure a good length of mig wire to the cables in the chassis, it makes the job so much easier when replacing the wires.. but you probably already knew that little trick anyway..

very good as described, did you take the photo before or after the incident with the lamp!! He looks too happy and unafraid.

I'll speak to you later i may know of a back bit, at that place i told you about
You have a MIG thats great easy to use, although I am not an expert.

Hi John, I can't help with the welding (too many kms apart) but once you get the hang of the MIG for general welding, you will never use a stick welder again. One essential thing is a good helmet, if you cannot see what you are welding you cannot weld. Hope you get a little guidence, then it is practice. Great to see another restoration. Cheers, Erich.
