The TAC plate we found has been identified as belonging to 2nd Division, so it is likely that Ambrose' final posting was to a CMF unit in NSW.
![]() Last night I got the Landy itch, but unfortunately the Fairmont was due for a pink slip so I had to dismantle the dash to fix a pesky little problem instead and ran out of light. ...never one to be deterred by something so trivial as darkness, I got my mag-lite and a sheet of wet and dry and went to work anyway! ![]() I decided to see what else I could uncover on the formation plate holders! ![]() On both front plates I uncovered yellow markings - mostly numbers. I found it odd that the markings were in yellow. I have only seen them in white. Is this out of the ordinary? On the off-side plate was a series of numbers on two lines, I think they are: 2310 0555 ![]() The near side plate was much harder to read. I can make out the second figure as a number 6 but I'm not sure what the first marking(s) are? I don't think it is a '10' because the first vertical marking has a curled lower end and the oval shape is too elongated to be a "0". ![]() Any suggestions?

mm, those are new to me. the one with 2 lines could be the items NSN (nato stock number). I'll have to look it up to check.
The other one is more unusual.

This morning I got up a little early and fitted the new light globe on my way to the bus stop.
![]() It must have looked funny - a well dressed guy in a tie and trousers spinning screwdrivers on a ratty old Landrover at 6:45am!

Another thing... Yesterday arvo I went for a drive, and just as I hit traffic on Norwest Boulevard it started to rain.
My passenger side windscreen smearer works okay, but the drivers one just made sounds like a dying porpoise and did very little. I ended up just turning it off and wiping it manually occasionally...Does anyone have any experience with reconditioning these things? I would like to have a go at it myself but would like some inside knowledge. The green bible is no help here unfortunately.

G'day Shonky
![]() "Windscreen Smearer" I like that If it is a Lucas unit it could just be suffering from worn out brushes, or the insulating block where the wires enter the side is poor/dead, for parts and info, it might be worth contacting Kevin Baker @ KB Classic Spares in Witta in Qld on 907)54 944 221, and if you quote him the model No he should be able to supply parts, as he is the "Lucas" man with a large store of parts, 50,000 plus or Barry Cliff electrical in NSW,@ Wyong on (02)4351 1968.hope that is of help cheers

Shonky,
Pull the wiper motor apart - it's not a sophisticated piece of engineering, and check the workings inside. From your description, it is working but not well. Once you have the top off it and you've exposed the driving gears, connect the motor up and see if you can locate the reason for the poor performance. You might find as I did that the lubricating grease on and around the gears, has solidified, which slows down the whole operation. These motors all need regular (every decade or so) changes of grease and surprisingly good results can be had from some TLC. The other area to check is the contact on the switch - the one located on the outside of the cover nearest the driver. Sometimes this contact has loosened and/or it needs a little tweaking to ensure it makes a good electrical connection. If it is working now - albeit poorly - it is more likely than not, that you will be able to fix the problem. Jack
