My FFT door and guard markings

Hi Fellow REMLR enthusiast

On the weekend I rubbed back the layers of paint on the doors and guards of my 1970 2a FFT, Is anyone able to held me to identify the markings on my vehicle. The red triangle ?, numbers or letters ?, the red cross and Amb ( maybe a feild medics vehicle ) ? And on the rear right tac plate is the number 22.

I tried to start the motor, but when I filled the rediator, the water ran out the welsh plugs as quick as I filled it up. I could only get the starter soleniod to click. The starter motor would not turn over. When the spark plugs were removed for inspection, they looked in good condition, no signs of cylinder damage and I was able turn the motor over by hand easily.

Hope somebody may be able to help me with the door and guard markings.

Regards
Mike

The AMB certainly look to be for ambulance. are there any bolt holes to indicate that it had stretcher frames fitted?

The triangle is Circle - C Squadron / Company, but that's usually the other way over ??

I'll look up the 22 marking in the morning

The triangle should represent "C" squadron, but the numbers are interesting as they look to be two attempts to mark the vehicle with the same number but with a different emphasis. I wonder which one was put on incorrectly!
My memory is getting a bit fuzzy but I'm pretty sure "22" represents an RAE Construction Squadron, (They build roads, bridges, airstrips and the likes of such, usually with heavy plant.) but I cant say which one without looking it up!!. (21 Construction was "21")

Units such as a Field Construction Sqn would more than likely have had their own "forward ambulance" on hand as their tasking was often the type of job that would dictate the necessity of such a vehicle being on hand on a full time basis, rather than having to depend on a standard ambo being purloined from the Field Ambulance "pool" every time a band aid was required.
The major stumbling block that I am having trouble coming to terms with is, why use an FFR (with a scoop back) as a field ambo rather than a standard long base, unless to utilise an on hand but often idle vehicle in another hopefully 'not often required' role and 'multi task' both the vehicle and the crew.
Regards
Glen

This is from a 1967 version of Veh Operating Instructions.

The 22 tac sign was used by 22 Construction Squadron - white letters on a blue background. I guess it may depend on the original colours of the tac sign, as there might have been a variety of different units bearing the same ORBAT # but with different Corps colours ?

Thanks Guys

Phoenix are there any photos of 109 wheel base field ambulance with stretcher frames fitted, I found the photo of the shorty, with the extended canopy that has a large red cross on the door, I think.
I have attached a couple of photos of the rear tub, I could not see any hole that may be for strecher frame. Looks like holes for FFR only.

Regards
Mike

also there is this note in the book

*** On linking of 2 and 3 FER and 2 and 3 FER Wksp to form 2 / 3 FER and 2 / 3 FER Wksp respectively VUS will become 22.
