PTO winch on 2a

Right ... another one from me

It is about the PTO winch I have on the front of my 2a.

I know that it works to some degree.
My problem is that the only way to let it out is to put reverse it out, I guess what I am trying to say ... it does not free spool out.

I have seen this type of winches on tractors before and there is a lever which moves (left or right) and causes it to free spool out.

Moving the lever back engages it again.

On my winch that lever seems to be stuck.

Have been looking for sources to service the winch myself, but have not been lucky at all with finding any information.

Any literature or links somebody can point me to?

Thanks,
Dante

Ah yes ... that lever/shifter moves left and right, so I don't think it is the original winch which came with the 2as (at least not in the UK versions).

Problem also is I can not find the name of the manufacturer.

What about posting a photo of it; someone will know what it is.

The lever you refer to is called the dog-clutch. With the lever disengaged the winch can be free-spooled i.e. the rope can be unwound by pulling on it.
Don't ever try to move the dog-clutch when the winch is operating.

If you use the winch get someone to show you how to use it safely first.

Cheers Chazza

Chazza,
s I said, I have used PTO winches on tractors before and winches for the purpose of recoveries for a long time.

As stated in my post I know what the purpose of the lever is, my post relates to the fact that it isn't working any asking for any pointers.

I will take a picture and post it. Maybe that will help to identify that sucker.

BTW .. I never heard the lever referred to as dog clutch.
I thought that the dog clutch /clutch dog sits inside the winch, while the lever operates the clutch. That is why I called it the lever and not the clutch.
Names I have heard used for it are: Lever, Shifter, (Fork) Selector (that is on the Drumwinch 6920 which came originally with the Series 3), clutch handle (Koenig winches)

Thanks,
Dante

Dante,
The Army used Bamford PTO winches and were manufactured in Moorabbin Victoria, if my memory serves me. These winches have no sheer pin, but use an overload clutch setup.

well .. that is cool ... no changing pins anymore ... provided that it is the Bamford PTO.
You wouldn't have any links by any chance?
