series 3 winch mounting

Hi all,
was wandering if someone can send me pics or info on a winch fitted to a series 3. I recently bought this one off a guy who said it was off an s3 but as you can see it doesn't fit. Do i need to cut off the bar support brackets and drill holes in the chassis with packers, or is this mounting bracket off an s2a or something? if so would anyone have one for a s3?

Trick is you have an army series 3, not a civilian one, that part of the chassis is a little different

it's a bamford winch which was apparently off a s3 gs. It came with bumper and brush bar which is nearly identicle to mine. were they all set up to accept the winch? on my census number it says; 6028, 6028B with winch so i'd assume it should just bolt on

6028 B is a GS with winch, so yours would have had it fitted.

Got a longer shot showing the winch sitting there? Do you have the winch Fairleads and a winch bull bar?

I'm currently working on a swb civvy S3 with a pto drum winch on the front. It also has the military "cheese-dicer" bullbar. The winch is built with its own bolt-on chassis extensions to which the bumper is bolted, a few inches further forward.
Hope this helps...

From what I can see, the winch came off a civvy Rover (sorry, no clue if it came off a 2a or 3), the angle iron at the lower front would have run along the top rear edge of the bumper.
The first bullbar looks like an original military unit, whereas the second bumper is a civvy ring-in. Personally, I'd fit packings under the front of the winch brackets, then refit the first bullbar, though it won't then be concours. Just a note, is that bullbar twisted or am I just seeing it wrong?
A fairlead is the rope guide on the winch, whether by rollers or a rounded corner. It's to stop the rope/cable catching and becoming damaged, and helps keep the spooling neat.
Feel free to ignore my advice if you need to - I'm a sheer amateur in military Land Rovers.

G'day Becket, looks like a 6000 Ib Bamford (Diana will know) The mounting plates/holes look like they're made for an Ex mil Series 2A, will fit perfectly under the 'D' recovery points on the chassis rails, just behind the bumper. Sorry that I haven't got a photo.

G'day Beckett

The fairleads are the rollers that the cable passes through, there are 2 vehticle ones on that winch, and looks like the lower one is there as well, the brush bar that came with it is the standard brush bar, and the one with the bumper batr is the later one with the lifting bracket anti-chafing extensions (the rectangular brackets on both sides) they are to hold the lifting ropes clear of the body during helo/shipping lifts, the centre bar has been bent up to possibly by somebody doing a "fix the vehicle job with a chain-block and bent the centre bar, by heating the bar you could probably straighten it out

cheers
