I know you are a long way from the Sea but if you can check out marine engineering places or marine shops some of the bigger places carry a lot of ss bolts.

Yes, but chances of finding BSF will be very slim. Good place to look for metric, Whitworth and UNC though, some chance of UNF, but almost none of finding BSF.

You would be suprised what some of the older marine shops have tucked away, When I got out of the army 1984 I use to deliver to all the marine place around Bulimba in Brisbane they use to deal in a lot of British engines and gearboxs. you never know your luck.

The reps from Coventry, and Fasteners Australia are due in at work soon.

Give me a list of what you want, and I'll get them to check it out and quote. At least I'll get them at wholesale (probably up to 50% off retail)

I could be surprised. I would not be surprised if some of the older marine shops had BSF bolts and nuts, but not in stainless.

What needs to be remembered is that the while the conversion of British manufacture to Unified threads was well under way by the early sixties, even in a marine environment the use of stainless fasteners below decks was quite unusual until about the eighties, and above deck fittings almost invariably used Whitworth (and in fact continued to do so long after Unified threads had taken over almost everywhere else, often going straight from Whitworth to metric).

Most of the marine places around Bulimba have disappeared under a sea of highly priced housing. Bulimba is now a very up-market residential suburb. Even the old Bal pub, once a blood house of the first rank, is now a yuppie establishment without a public bar and with dress restrictions, "no industrial clothing or work boots".

Unless you are using 1/2" there should be no problem using UNF bolts as they are compatable and the supply is much better.
