Confirming spring numbers

I found this elsewhere:
Land Rover springs & weights

This information supports what Evelyn has said with regards to the front springs being dedicated to a particular side of the vehicle.

The numbers alluded to also suggest that my r/h front spring is indeed fitted correctly.

The lack of a number on my passenger side spring leaves the door open to possibilities that perhaps an incorrect spring has been fitted, however I doubt it, as that would mean that the spring would be rated at greater than what I have on the drivers side. This is unlikely and I suppose it confirms that the front right spring has indeed sagged a bit.

Time to ponder the route from here.

Regards,
Ross.

G'day Ross, the lack of a part number on the lhs suggests to me that it is aftermarket and of dubious quality. As I am sure you already know, springs should be replaced as pairs only. If not all 4, ie, rears as well .
hope you get it sorted soon
cheers always
Evelyn

Ok, some words from REMLR. You must have bought it from e-bay because we saw it for sale there.

Originally she was a 1978 series 3 General Service, with Army Registration number 29-640. That's about all we have on record for your old girl, but she looks like she has been well used, which is nice to see!

Hello Richard,

Yes, I'd noted those numbers from the REMLR registrations page, prior to my actual purchase of the vehicle.

No, my purchase was done outside Ebay(sort of), but yes I first saw the vehicle listed for sale there, listed by the fellow whom I'd purchased it from. I secured the unit a few weeks after the actual sale ended.

I even managed to find the fellow who owned it prior to that too,(sold 1 month or so prior) via an old Ebay link, and made contact asking for his opinion of what I was getting into. He assured me that this was indeed a good sound vehicle, and he even expressed his regret at having parted with it. He'd had it for about 3-4 years, and assures me he'd never driven it in the rain, whilst doing his part to complete the transformation.

I'm thoroughly delighted with this vehicle.

I actually thought all the components were painted black, chassis, bumpers, diffs, steerng gear, inner panels, etc, but pretty much everything coloured black has been powdercoated by the looks of things.

A few friends(who are ex army) have spent quite a bit of time underneath it, looking it all over, and all have given the big thumbs up and commented on the great condition it's in.

I've spent much more time looking it all over, rather than actually driving it, and I too, am quite impressed with the overall condition. It is, after all, a 30 odd year old vehicle.

Regards,
Ross.
