2.6l valve clearances

G'day everyone,
I'm sure it's been stated a number of times but i can't find any posts with it, can anyone tell me what valve clearances to give for a 2.6l rover 6. I know not to give what the book says but is it double that or another dimension? thanks alot, Bill.

Hey Bill you must be coming ahead in leaps and bounds if your up to the engine can;t help you off the top of my head
and the rest i think are at the auctions today.

On mine the plate is missing from the top of the manifold, but the inlet and exhaust clearances are stamped onto it.
If yours still has the plate on it, I beleive the clearances it says are what you use.

Thanks John, I have the plate but dimensions have been scratched out for some reason. Haven't actually done much for a while but caught the bug again after I won a trailer on ebay. Will post pics soon when I pull me finger out.

G'day Beckett

Just had a look in my Brooklands Book for 2/2a/3 Landies and it states the 2.6 litre valve clearances as

Inlet Valve:- .006 inch (.15mm)

Exhaust Valve:- .010 inch (.25mm)

I would suggest that you add an extra Thou or two to those settings for the higher temperatures in Australia, and extended milages

Hope that is of help

cheers

set em at 10 thou hot or cold and be done with it...

enjoy the numbers 5+6 exhaust valves... If you dont stay on top of the settings on them your going to eat the valves...

When you do the feeler gauge wipe on them I used to like setting the first 4 exhaust valves loose all the inlet valves tight and then the numbers 5 + 6 exhaust valves tight.

and yes on mine the no 1 was loose alright it ate the exhaust valve 3 big holes in it.

thanks for the suggestion as well will print this one up.

no I mean enjoy them you work the 6 pot hard and it will eat the exhaust valves on pots 5 and 6. (5 is usually the worst offender)

I had a mate (ok aquaintence) who I was doing spanner twising on his rover come service time and every single service the exhuasts on 5+6 were always 5 thou out. He used to thrash the buggery out of it overdrive and all and every 8000km hed wheel over for the oil change and tune check the valves touch them up, wind in the last 2 exhuast valve adjusters to get them back on spec and off hed go

every 24000 Km off with the head replace the exhuast valves on 5/6 then 24000 Km later replace all the exhaust valves and then at about 100000 KM do all the valves.. with new head gaskets and bolts every time....

never could get him to slow down, he reckond he was getting it all on tax so didnt care. hes probabley thrown more money at that rover than I have at houses. I think by now it would be getting to the stage where the only original bits would be the chassis and body work.

Im not a fan of the 6 pot the extra grunt it gets you isnt worth the fuel consumption nor the extra maintenance.
