Perentie oil pressure light nightmare

A couple of weeks ago i sunk the truck in a river and since then I've had an oil light that alternately wont come on with the ignition, or comes on but wont go off when running!
Oil pressure is ok, the oil pressure switch on the side of the block and the one to the rear of the filter mount (the one with 2 wires) are working fine, the switch to the front of the filter mount (1 wire) is not connected.
There are 2 relays behind the fuse panel that are related to the warning lights, they are both okay.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for the perentie, particularly of the oil pressure light circuit they could post or email to me, or a suggestion of what could be the problem?

How deep did you sink it?

Might be water inside a component completing a circuit; possibly in the dashboard somewhere. Can you substitute components such as relays with another to try and find the dodgy one? One circuit will probably be for the light and the other circuit for the oil pressure gauge. Disconnecting one sender at a time should allow you to identify which circuit is which.

I once had a similar problem on my P6, which ended up being oil sludge inside the sender, causing the switch to stick. Cleaning it fixed it and saved me $96!

Alternatively; have you checked the oil pressure with a test gauge screwed into where the sender goes to establish that there really is oil pressure

Cheers Charlie

I took my Perentie through a car spa (upward facing car wash jets to clean off sand etc). The oil light came on just at the end of the wash and stayed on for a while down the highway. The oil was over full before we left for the trip so wasn't worried about the oil level.

Must have been the same type of thing, water in somewhere.

Was not too deep, fell off the side of a causeway, drivers side was about top of seat box, passenger side was about 3/4 up the door. needless to say the wife was not best pleased about her wet seat!
I have changed all the relays and fuses, cleaned all contacts checked some of the wiring for continuity but without a wiring diagram its hard to trace some of the wiring, being different from the civvie diagrams that I have.

I don't know if this partial wiring diagram will be of much benefit to you, but I've attached it anyway. It's from a set of 110 EMEIs. I've marked the oil pressure lght and the FSO relay which serves it, is at the top middle of the diagram.

It is a little more complex than a S2A.

The pic is hi res so you should be able to resize it, to get the full benefit.

Thanks Jack,
Unfortunately, when I resize it it gets impossible to read, But I appreciate the effort.

Cheers,
Steve.

PM me with your email address and I'll send it that way - might be easier to resize.
