what is this?

on my 1980 series 3 gs (see 's3 resto' thread) i was mending the exhaust pipe and saw that just behind the passenger seat , as you can see right where the tire throws everything. it has a wire that was connected but has broken, and i was wondering what its use is? i lost the wire behind the fuel tank. didnt investigate it well as i was busy with other things.
cheers

The series 3 evap canister is behind the rear wheel on the RHS if I recall. Was it a wire, or a breather tube?? I'd still put money on it being part of the emission control system

You are correct!
Yes it,s the emission control chamber. There are hoses on the other side behind the seat.

Red rocket.
