Only in the series 1s, Series 2s and the later RRcs and Counties will a chassis number tell you the year model.

243 is a series 2a prefix so it is after October 1961.

Another clue is the levers for the windscreen vents, the series 2 had big knobs that you turned.

The fact that it still has 2 separate windscreen wiper motors tells us that it is before 1967.

The way you can find out a year range on an S2a is to find the chassis suffix letter - it should also be on the plate you showed us.

thanks thats great um the windscreen vents arent a knob they are more like in a defender/series III but with like half circle tabs u push down.

that plate is a bit crusty and im not sure i could find another number or letter on it. but ill have look with a wire brush next time im out at the farm.

otherwise is there a place on the chassis that i will find it?

Im thinking its a II but Im only going off of the breathers on the engine.

Yes I can see the SIIa vent regulators in the third image and that is why I made the comment.

I would be reluctant to use a wire brush on the ID plate - it is aluminium photo etched and will scratch easily.

First remove the plate with a screw driver and see more details by holding it in different angles and light. Then, if no success with a little careful use of paint stripper and wash off in a couple or three minutes, the next bet is to find the number on the chassis where you can use your wire brush.

As Diana says, the 243 shows it is a RHD export 2a. The steering wheel and various other fittings show it is no later than suffix C.

The number 525183 is a casting number not an engine number or even a part number.

The oil bath air cleaner on the crankcase breather is part of the optional dust-proof engine kit (517055) up to engine suffix H. Note that engine and chassis suffix letters do not match.

If Rob is correct the range of the B suffix is March 1963 to April 1966, a couple of months later for each of the dates with Australian built vehicles. (Probably means this vehicle too, as it is CKD.)
