What is and how did all of the muck get into the hub? After washing the bearings in petrol inspect them for pitting and roughness when turned in your hand with a load on the bearing. They should be silver in colour and smooth in rotation. Pack them with grease before reassembly and fit a new oil seal. Inspect the surface that the seal runs on for excessive wear - it can be replaced on some axles; later ones not so. You will need a dial gauge to set the end-float to 0.05 - 0.10mm when adjusting the bearings. It is probably a good idea to order a pair of new lock washers before you reassemble the hubs. Make sure you get all of the muck out, Cheers Charlie

:o!
![]() Is there any better emotion than that expressed by a dancing banana? I worked on Buttercup yesterday; finally the new diff is in and she's purring like a kitten. The brakes haven't been bled (they are completely out of operation atm) so I'm either going to repair them or put a Red Bull Racing sticker on the side of the car ![]() I'm amazed at how well she's driving; it's all coming along nicely! The only problem at this stage is that I'm moving to Hong Kong for 6-12 months this Friday after my last uni exam on Thursday; so I'm busy I'm definitely not selling her though, so I've been trying to rust-proof, etc. for the next few months at least; any good ideas? Thanks all for the help you've provided (6 months ago ). I wish I could work on her for the next-few weeks; I can't believe I didn't make more time over the last year... The only problem with the diff is that there is (so far) a tiny amount of diff oil that has dripped overnight; I haven't had a chance to find the source and I'm not sure that I want to! |
