Thahks for your post John. I've just had another person check it out and he gave the same opinion so i will have to put that down on the ever growning to do list
 . It seems like a pretty fiddly job though. I had a suspision that the foaming oil theory was a bit of a long shot. Lakey, i'll check about the paint code for you and mate, i probably wouldn't trust them either.

Alright, at the moment we have him stripped down, the engine out to change the crank seal and then the re build. It was pretty straight forward but i managed to lower the engine off the crane too quick and hit the fuel pump
 . Managed not to break the glass bowl but there was some oil leaking from around the primer but it could've been the seal so replaced that. Anybody know how easy these are to come by if needs be? Replaced the welsh plugs ( there was one that took a fair bit of persuading to go in) on the back and a few gaskets too. That and a whole lot of cleaning. Also took the front springs off and since i don't have the spare cash for parabolics, i've chosen to have them retempered and may do the chamfering as discussed on the parabolics post. Also fitting poly bushes. More pics soon.

While we had the body off we removed the overdrive and greased the input shaft bearing with lithium grease. I'm not quite sure what sort of overdrive we have though. It could be a Fairey but there's nothing on the pamphlet or overdrive itself to suggest that. It states that it is an R 2000 and being firstly in Spanish i would think that it would be a Santana import part. Does anyone else have an overdrive like this or know of where to get spares etc, have i missed the obvious?

The overdrive is a Toro. It's the same as the one I got recently off evilbay and the gurus here on AULRO identified it for me. Unfortunately I think that parts are a bit hard to come by, but they are a better overdrive than the Fairey due to more oil capacity and a better input gear I believe.
Interesting to see how you go with the rebuild. Looking good so far  .TimJ.
