If it is a Champions Land Rover, does it have the optional R4P oil filter on the firewall? Does it have a ring pull transfer case and floor panel? It looks like a bit of work, but you would have to strip everything anyway. Look for straightish panels. Repairing a chassis is easy compared to metal shrinking aluminium. I would not be put off by the price, but bear in mind that keen enthusiasts really look for matching numbers everywhere.

    more ans more

Just how many 49 and 50 models are out there ???? They seem to be all over the place . Around here , there are more earlier vehicles than the later 52 / 53 models..... which are rarer it seems . If you are handy with bending metal, you can make up most of the body panels yourself .....just go down to your local aluminium supplier , enrol at your local TAFE ( where you will have access to guillotines and folders etc. ) , and buy a few sheets of 18 guage and start bending/shaping Handy if you did metalwork at high school...... but thinking about it, that might be a liability too!

    havent seen them before!
Have a look at Morris Commercial , same stud pattern, hole in centre needs a very slight amount machine out to fit Land Rover hub.
Rim offset is greater to the outside and very heavy

    part numbers for rims

The measurements I made of the Land Rover rim on my S2A were later checked against my 80" S1 and the rims are identical. The S1 rims are stamped as 10/49 and it's a 1950 model sold out in April 1950, so the rims seem genuine and correct for age and model. (There is of course a possibility that the spare on the S2A is in fact a S1 rim). I don't understand why they are 6" wide rims when all advice I've had to date says it should be a 4.5" rim, but that's another matter.

    Hi all

I believe that the rims were 4.5" for first year then 5.0" for all the early models until they introduced the series 2 - 109". LWB rim sizes then increased to 5.50" for fitting 7.50 x 16 tyres and as an option for the 88".

This is the information that I lifted from the 1948-53 parts catalogue Part No 4051.

Road wheel, well base rim type ... ... Qty 5 ... ... Part No 231601
    Road wheel detachable rim type ... ... Qty 5 ... ... Part No 217267
Special bolt and nut for detachable rim type wheel ... ...
    ... ... Qty 8 ... ... Part No 243471

Information from the series II and IIA parts catalogue ... Part No 4051.

The Part No's for the rims remain the same as the 80" for the 88"

Road wheel, well base rim type ... ... Qty 5 ... ... Part No 231601
    Road wheel detachable rim type ... ... Qty 5 ... ... Part No 217267
Special bolt and nut for detachable rim type wheel ... ...
    ... ... Qty 8 ... ... Part No 243471

    The Part No for the rims for the 109";
Road wheel, well base rim type ... ... Qty 5 ... ... Part No 272309

Also there is an rare option for all series II models
    15" Road wheel to fit 8.20" x 15" sand tyres ... ... Part No 526753
this 15" option was available more commonly in North America.

Many thanks to Frank Sharp in Hobart for citing this information.

    Cheers Arthur

Then wil have to buy BACK IN a dedicated telephone so I can constantly contact him for help!!! (just a head up there Ian!)

Up until halfway through 1949 most rims were 4 1/2 inch with no date.

The valves are by the vent and they are flat around the centre hole. Most have unfinished welds on the joints. Inside the the well of the rim is a stamp showing the size 4.50 x 16

From mid 1949 Rover changed to a 5 inch rim which carried through to the series 2 and they are dated with Month and year. Example 6/49

Here is a photo showing both types. The one on the right is 48-49

    Cheers Richard
