    Seat belt securing point

    Hi,
I have a SIII SWB which went over the pits in Canberra for registration yesterday. It failed pending an engineers report on the sash securing point.

I have the sash secured to the galvanised capping over my right shoulder, which is where I understand it is meant to be. Can anyone please confirm this is the right spot and if not where do I attach it to as there is nothing else remotely possible.

    Thanks

The problem is that the shoulder point on the capping does not meet the ADR requirements for the allowable region for the third point. While it may have been the only point on a soft top it doesn't meet current regs.

If your vehicle is a hard top then you need one of the standard upper points. While I don't like lap only belts it may be your only option.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Check the ADR's, Second Edition for your car and see what is required.

Bear in mind also, that local licencing authorities can impose their own rules on top of the National ones, which might be the problem in your case.

If you take a copy of the parts sheet, which Diana posted, to the engineer, it might pacify them,

    Cheers Charlie

Well I picked up the car (88 soft top) from the engineer yesterday and I am now $950 worse off. The sash attachment point on the inside of the tub galv capping was considered not suitable and was moved to the top of the capping with some reinforcement. I now have an engineers certificate so should be able to get that ticked off when it goes over the pits again in the new year.

    Hello Jondayball,

Could you please take a number of photographs of the new anchorage point for the seat belt and post them up? Thank you.

The new anchorage points could be up there as some of the most expensive accessories on your car for a while!

    Merry Christmas too

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Will do. Car is at the brake shop at the moment and will get back early in the new year so will post photos then.

Awesome progress, Jon, albeit the hidden extra costs.

Will look forward to getting together in the New Year for a womble around the region?

Looking forward to that John. However, he is presently in the brake shop having a complete overhaul as I wasn't happy with the stopping power as it stood.

I hope to be registered by mid january.

Why did you take it over the pits and not to just an authorized inspection station? If the vehicle has been previously registered in Aust and is not modified then there is no reason to take it over the"pits" at Dickson.

I was working on the fact that as the car is a British Army Lightweight and was imported from Hong Kong then it had to go to Dickson. That said, to the average punter I suppose its just a land rover so could in fact go anywhere.

Is there any reason that I now need to go back to Dickson or could I now go to any inspection centre?
