Recovering a Series III dash ?

I need to recover the top panel of a Series III 'dashboard' due to cracking of the vinyl & foam.

I've read that builders expanding foam is good for filling in the cracks once the vinyl is removed, shave it to shape once cured. Then I guess it's just a case of using some spray adhesive and applying some stretchy black vinyl.

Has anyone done this and are there any tips before I start ?

I did look at some stretchy vinyl at an automotive vinyl supplier. It was more expensive that the standard seating vinyl but I think the stretchiness is needed to get it to fit & look good.

Any ideas or pictures of the finished job appreciated.
