brake light switch

hi
i changed the vacum booster, but it turned out not to be good as i was second hand, have just replaced the original one and with both changes of booster the brake lights stay on, the switch seems to work but the pedal does notreach the switch.
have i done something wrong or is the switch failed, it seems to work fine when i press it, just the pedal is not reaching to close the circuit.

There is a little ratchet mechanism thingy on the switch. From memory you pull it all the way out, then press on the brake pedal and it goes in a fraction to give the required clearance between pedal and switch.

If you've been mucking round with the pedal then its likely gone in too far and needs resetting.

Have you got a Rave manual. You'll find a better explanation in there....

thanks, should ahve a rave manuel some were will have to search. i have the switch out, its the type with a pull back collar on.

I was having a similar issue with mine a while back...

It may seem a bit dodgy, but I screwed a small screw into the head of the switch to give it the length it needed to switch the lights off, it is still working perfectly after many months since I did the job...

try swapping holes on the brake pedal.

i ended up buying a new switch, problem solved, then pulled harder on old switch and it reset to original length, guess got two switchs now but at least its fixed, just need to get it started its been sitting so long battery flat and rego due by 11th,

I was having a similar issue with mine a while back...

That is what I ended up doing, as the ratchet thingy in the switch was too loose to hold itself.

My booster was leaking air into itself when holding the brakes on, with the effort required to brake was increasing as the vacuum decreased.

Changed the booster and the braking effort is now spot on and with only the issue of the switch of remaining on, which I fixed with a screw fitted into the end of the switch striker.

Hi, my switch has a rubber "hat" on it. I would guess that that is an owner modification at some stage? I get what you guys are saying about resetting the switch. I'll take the rubber off and try extending it out to reset it.
