Two hot days, today and yesterday, and both days the temperature gauge did things I don't like. Looks like it'll be going to get looked at shortly.

If it can't drive without getting hot, it certainly can't tow.

Striker, I am assuming that getting it looked is under some warranty....if not and you need to pay be careful someone doesn't throw a lot of parts at it as it could be one of many!

Dash gauge. The EMS (Engine Monitoring System) hasn't been installed yet.
I need the temperature sensor installed ASAP, but everyone tells me it's a bit complicated, and they're not interested.

It sounds as if you need to ask Davis Landies about the temp, surely they have checked the cooling system etc before they sold it to you.

Hard to believe no-one wants to install a temp monitor for you, oh wait this is Australia in the 21st century

The car is now back at Davis Performance Landys.
The job list is:
1. Wire thermos to come on when aircon is on.
2. Install aux water temp sensor (for use by EMS).
3. Check radiator for blockages.
4. Fix corrosion issue on existing temp sensor and attached plug/wiring.


I'm surprised that in a car as recent as a P38, the thermos don't already come on automatically when the aircon is turned on, but between making sure that happens, and checking the radiator for blockages, I'm hoping the issue is resolved.

Once the aux temperature sensor is fitted, I can start on the EMS, and I'll have a much better idea of the real water temperature.

I think you'll find they come on when the temperature and/or A/C gas pressure gets high.
IIRC, they can also vary in speed.

That is indeed what Bruce said also. He mentioned that working this way means the coolant already has a chance to get hotter before the cooling kicks in, and wiring the fans directly to AC-on would help with the issue.

I figure if the car gets hot on a 35 degree day, imagine what would happen on a 45 degree day with a 2.5 tonne trailer on the back.
