202 Tune-up guide?
Hey guys,
I need to give the 202 in my girlfriends HJ a good tune.
Are there any guru's out there?
Timing, points, carby etc I can deal with, is there anything else that generally needs to be done with this motor though?
I know the lifters are hydraulic, is there ANY adjustment required in that area?
I've got a workshop manual but its fairly vague..
Any other pointers appreciated.
Cheers,
Ash

standard HJ you replace plugs and points/condencor.
air filters.
check replace carby needle seat adjust fuel level.
clen check idle jets and clean throttle.original they didnt have fuel filters so you get lots of crud coming through.
remove carby and give it a good clean out.
check manifold for cracks and check for air leaks soft hoses.replace PCV.
most of these have EGR valves and hot box valve at this age they probable dont work.check exhaust for restriction.
change engine thermostat and radiator for up coming summer.

optional extras.to use less fuel.
look for visco hub that works off WB/VB/HZ.
get better distributor, camshaft and exhaust [HJ 1975 NSW] has heavy polution crap tuning.
plugging pipes does nothing as the tuning is in the timing and compression.
tappets are preset and you have to modify the bridges to adjust.the only reason to do this is if the valves or cam are worn.
