Its (should be ) just a list of companies and what they charge.

    Any thoughts?

Caravan insurance is so expensive, I don't bother insuring mine given the modest value of them van (realistically it's probably worth $5000 tops).

Same with my trailers .... way to expensive to insure. Infact I've owned them for that many years I could probably have replaced all the trailers for the cost of the insurance over the years.

The combined premium on BOTH the agreed value $65,000 on the 2012 caravan , AND agreed value $85,000 in the 2013 Iveco Daily 4x4 are comparable with KTA (Ken Tame and Associates) than the $32,000 Agreed Value on the 2006 Defender was alone with CGU.

I've been thinking about this for the last few days. As Shane noted, older vans are worth very little, and if it wouldn't be the end of the world if it wasn't around any more. I've spend under $3K on mine now including the purchase price, but a question I have is does your car insurance cover any damage my van might do in an accident, or can you get 3rd party insurance for this?

Your car insurance covers anything you are towing for liability but will only contribute around 500 towards loss or repair.

I never worried about insurance on my cheaper van or camper trailer but now I have a newer van I got it covered.

    AAMI: $20000 cover, $382 premium.
    Cheers, David.

Thanks Dave. I've heard van insurance is expensive, and now I see it is. Not sure why though for the amount they get used? I pay much less than that for $30K cover on my 101 - which would get used about the same amount most people use their vans - probably more - around 50 times per year on average at the moment.

Is it based on KM per year or amount of time used - like you can get insurance for vehicles for limited use?

I have $8800 agreed value on my 1997 Camp'o'matic through AAMI for $249.
I think that this is OK.

I tried others like YOUI and I was quoted over $400 so I will keep it with AAMI.

While it's not earth shattering money, fully comprehensive insurance on a vehicle worth $8,800 would be only slightly more, so I still think it is expensive for something that doesn't spend anywhere near the same amount of time on the road. Just can't work out how they come up with these figures. Are there a lot of claims made against van insurance - I'm guessing there must be for premiums like this?

    They're easily damaged
    Easily stolen
    Easily broken into
Greater risk when on the road (towing presents higher risk)
A truck load more expensive to repair compared to a vehicle.

    All adds up...

YOUI - $41,500 agreed value / $625 Excess / $412.05 premium ... on a new 2015 KK. No annex included as there is only a 2m wide awning that costs $725 to replace ...

Was pretty happy with that price!
