    ..Noise that i cant place

Hi All First time poster so be gentle,

I have recently purchased a 2005 Discovery 3 2.7l Turbo Diesel with 160000 on the clock and very happy,
All service items have been taken care of to my knowledge and Front Differential has been rebuilt recently.

But i am trying to isolate a noise which has been driving mad and I am going to do my very best to describe it

    The Situation,

Sound can be reproduced for a period of no less than a second at any time only at throttle OFF
Sounds can be reproduced consistently Between throttle off and slight accelerator pressure
Most noticeable when maintaining speed under light acceleration

Can be best described as a rattle or if anybody is old enough to remember the addons to wheel spokes on you bicycle "the ones that made lotsa noise" that the closest that i can think of

I am not able to reproduce the sound In park and moving engine through the rpm range

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to the forum.

Where does the sound seem to emanate from?

All guesswork. You do really need to try and isolate the conditions this is occurring at.

Does the noise only occur in a set speed range ? Try holding the vehicle in a different gear and see if the noise is still the same ( and perhaps in the same sound range. )

If it does not seem to be related to speed, have you tried replicating the noise at standstill with the bonnet up ?

It sounds like it is pretty loud. Is this the case ?

Other guesses for on and off throttle. Check out the heat shields on the exhaust ( cannot even recall if they have them ), or loose internals on mufflers. Also check if the motor is moving excessively on the mounts, and the belts are not touching anything ?

    Hi Guys,

Well i thought i would try and make it easier, i noticed i could get a good recording when going through at tunnel as the sound reflected loudly off the wall

    [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rvMkCS1_1M[/ame]

normal engine running till 7 seconds the noise comes in and out as i am trying to replicate but is steady towards the end of the clip even after coming out of the tunnel.

noise is still present during command shift..or whilst standing still..is sorta reminds of a flat spot
but happens between power off and power in

will check the other suggestions as i get a moment

If I were to forget what you have written previously I would say it sounds like the brakes are scraping. Other than that I am not much help sorry.
