    VW fuel economy

Not Land Rover related but I am impressed with our new car. We got a VW Passat with the 125 kw engine about 6-7 weeks ago. Had a chance for a drive yesterday so we down to Colac, toured through the Otways to Apollo Bay and home via the Great Ocean Road and Geelong. Total 497 kms. The VW used just over 1/4 of a tank of diesel and the trip computer is still saying a fuel range of around 1000 kms. The thing has done less than 2000 kms so I would expect it to get a bit better as it runs in. If the new VW Amorok is a half decent 4wd I may be tempted to end 25 years of Land Rover ownership.

The newer veedubs are good ... but watch the price of spares! They make Landrover look generous!

Any chance of a conversion from 1/4 VW tank per 497kms to litres/100km?

I can't find a conversion table aywhere for VW tanks/km to a meaningful figure.

I have a Golf 2.0 TDI with the six speed DSG box. Brilliant changes gear faster than I ever could.

The car has a six speed semi automatic gearbox. Takes a bit of getting used to as it has engine braking like a manual and it changes up and down gears very quickly. Seems to always be in the right gear. I dont think most people would realise they are driving a diesel. It has 350 nm of torque and really goes very well. There is no turbo lag and it pulls hard from around 1800 rpm. iterestingly the exhaust pipe has no black diesel stains as is as clean as the day we got it.
