    puma diesel

Thinking of getting a new defender just wanting to find out if they are
more reliable than the td5, which I had no end of trouble with..
What, if any are things to keep an eye on, or to change, any feed back
would be great...Hows the power, economy, towing ability etc. Looking at a dual cab..

    thanks Jeff

    Love 'em!

More power, better power curve, I think the economy might be a tad better (not sure on that) Awesome for towing as turbo comes in earlier than the TD5. They had a few teathing problem and like with anything new, people are far quicker to bash them then to praise them. It will take a long time (if ever) to convert some of the older school. I've done 55,000kms (and I don't drive like a grandpa) and no real drama's.

Highly recomended by me, gets two thums up!

    Cheers,

I've got an '07, and no problems to date. It has to go back in the next week or two for a diff recall, but this is a well known problem with the early ones. No charge & LR give me a Freelander for the day, so can't complain.

Th Puma is not as fuel efficient as either my 300TDi or my TD5, but it is getting better as it gets more miles on it. 300Tdi gets 10L/100. TD5 gets 10.5 L/100. Puma gets 11L/100.

Some early ones had an issue with water/dirt ingestion from the fuel breather pipe. I did this to mine: Cheap fix for fuel breather (water/dirt ingestion) on Puma? and haven't had that issue (as yet).

They are a big step forward from the TD5.
