had they driven any TDi's before?

if they were first timers, then yeh they definitely seem slow. Especially if they're used to driving a sedan around.

Tell them to buy it and they'll get used to it

I just brought a TDI for my wife. It's a huge step down from the XR8 she was driving and has taken quite a bit of getting used too. But on the plus side we've filled it up once, went 4wding (70km off road in sand tracks, majority in low range) and have done over 500km and still with well over a quater tank!

SLOW???? Tell them to go and drive a 30Td Hilux they are way slower than a Tdi D1

Falcon , Golf and Corolla drivers are unlikely to think the Tdi is anything special in the performance stakes

Its funny how cars perform wrt power and torque. I've found IDI Mercedes 5 and 6 cylinder diesels with half the power and torque spritelier to drive than my 300Tdi. Probably because they were much freer revving engines.

I find the performance of my Tdi adequate but that's only because I've got use of a 3.2 Mitsu DI-D for hard work. If that option wasn't there, I'd be looking for something bigger than a Tdi.
