    Air Flow Meter Supplier

I would be grateful to hear from anyone with a recommended supplier of hotwire V8 Air Flow Meters. I have no problem with re-manufactured/exchange units.

Sorry should have said a 3.9 or 5AM meter (not a 3.5 or 3AM). Unless you have 1st hand experience to the contrary I will be staying clear of chinese replicas from fleabay.

The genesis to this post is my view that after nearly 20 years a lot of D1 update/Classic V8 MAF/AFM's are on the way out if not already dead without their owners knowing it. For instance I have seen on this site a view that if you have no idling problems and with a well looked after donk getting 300 – 400 k out of a tank or < 100k/20L is to be expected? I disagree.

As there was no deluge of replies to my post here I have spent the last couple of days making enquiries.

It seems not many people self replace a MAF/AFM which is understandable when you see the price. The majority of Hotwire MAF/AFM replacements done in Australia by reputable non-stealer firms is by using Australian remanufactured units costing in the order of $500 - $700. Many of those firms admit they have problems albeit rarely with those remanufactured units. Some use second hand units costing up to $350 if their client has a coin problem. That approach is supported by a new (supposedly) LR MAF/AFM costing around $1200+ or being up to a 1/3 the value of vehicle!!!!

No wonder flea bay and some on-line merchants with their $100 - $150 on your doorstep specials do business.

I intend posting soon a Group Buy opportunity for D1 Update/Classic V8 owners wanting a New 5AM meter (LR Part# ERR5198) to see if this vicious circle can be broken.

All 3.9 hotwire AFM either RRC or D1 are now superceded to the one part number. So if your's doesn't have ERR 5198 then don't worry As long as it is a 3.9 Hotwire it'll be the right one. I have used the same one on 3.5 hotwire too with no issues.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Justin thanks for that heads up . Please correct me if I am wrong but I think the preceding, but identical part # for the 5AM meter was EAC 6215

A Maf has very little workings. It's basically a cast alloy body. A couple of sensor wires, under the top cover there are a few electronic resistors etc.
So there is no moving parts. Only the setting adjuster is a moving part
As far as the Chinese copies are concerned, and the fear that some put on them being inferior to the expensive Lands rover ones.
China and Taiwan produce probably most of the resistors being used in in electrical/electronic appliances, be it radios, Televisions, mobile phones, computers etc etc. People every day buy these items, and the components are all mass produced in China.
So I would imagine the Chines mafs electronics, (and there are very few in a Maf would be ok) As for the alloy casing, it is on par with the OEM part. I'm sure there have never broken. Having that said, the UK ebay MAF sellers are making a killing as these units most probably only cost about $5-10 to produce in China> I researched this a while ago, but it was all to hard to import with the customs, imports and dealing with non speaking Chinese manufacturers. I have a Chinese Maf on mine and have been running it without problem for 2 years. That is after I spent $500 odd each for 2 rebuilt Australian ones that only lasted approx 6 months.
