So is anyone using Britax XRay vision (HID) spotlights? How do they compare to light force in price and performance?

I've got the 200's, bought from WA funnily enough. I got QH ones and put the HID system in myself. It works out much cheaper getting the QH ones and their own HID kit, and much cheaper again using an Ebay HID kit as I did.

I haven't finalised installation yet, but they are made of Die-cast which is a downside in some people's books, they feel pretty solid to me.

In terms of cost - what was the RRP of the ones you saw?

Research I have done on HID says that HID's use a specially designed reflector. Retrofitting halogen lights with HID's is not as good as a purpose built HID.

Dave of course you are correct, however IMHO in practical terms the light output of HID is just so great that a 10% or 20% deficit for a conversion is not significant, especially considering that an Ebay 35 watt setup costs say $50 vs in some cases over 1K for a pair of new lights.

The other disadvantage I have found is that generally you have to drill a hole in the back of the light for the bulb , but to me a small price to pay seeing I have quite a few lights hanging around.

If I were buying new I would again probably buy a set of cheap "Nightstalker" from Super Cheap and put HIDs in.

At least then if and when they are stolen/broken I would not be heartbroken as I am a cheapskate/now broke self funded retiree.

I still do not know how the manufacturers get away with the really outrageous prices they try to charge. If they do.

LF240HID are around $800 per light (these are shaped like the XGTs)

LF240Blitz HID are around $850 the PAIR

For what it is worth, here is a simple "brightness" comparison.

On the left is a 100 watt halogen light source.
On the right is a 35 watt HID light source.

Both lights are Hella Rig 220 "Bull lights".

I had a HID bulb failure, hence the halogen bulb retrofitted.

You don't have to spend a fortune, unless you 'have to have' new gear.
All the driving lights I've had over the years have been second hand. I recently bought a pair of Hella Rally 2000's for $10 at a local market, 1 spot and 1 spread beam. They were dusty and dirty (on the outside), but in very good nik, and at the price, I'm not worried about drilling a couple of holes in them.
I just bought some Ebay HID kits, so I'm looking forward to seeing the results when I get them fitted.

Why don't you go and have a look at the HID lights these guys import from china.
