That would be an interesting experiment.
Certainly the 6 speed is well matched to the Puma engine's characteristics. Whether the torque-over-rev-range delivered by the Tdi would suit the ratios is a question to be answered. The low first and then the jump to second might challenge the dull patch below 1800 rpm that the Tdi has. The Puma (turbo) pulls well from 1200 rpm.

One problem (challenge) is the bell housing is part of the box so would need an adapter housing (flywheel housing) making, how do you accomodate the extra length of gearbox this flywheel housing creates.
Then what do you do about the clutch, new input shaft?? spud shaft?? . Don't forget the Tbox is rotated (clocked)10deg from the normal position. Not really a simple fix or we would have done it!! Food for thought. Ian Ashcroft |
