with a nanocom or similar it will come up with a one of a couple of fault codes.
without.
the engine wont start even though all other aspects prove ok.
you can test them with a mulitmeter when you crank the engine over by disconnecting it, setting the meter to freq count and then hooking up over the sensor while you crank the engine.
Mine constatly comes up with "noisy crank signal"
Replacing the sensor did nothing to fix it,at least there is a spare sensor in the console if it does fail.
I think my wiring is damaged as the oil pressure sensor that is on the same lead to the loom doesnt work.
Andrew
noisey crank sensor has a few causes
1. arcing from the stater motor contacts on startup
2. earth fault (like you couldnt guess that on a landy)
3. damaged loom
4. dirty sensor/flywheel
5. sensor not installed correctly.
if you clear the codes on the fly with the engine running and it doesnt come back till you shutdown and restart then your dealing with the first 2. if it comes back at random or as soon as you've cleared it any of the last 4.
Hi there was a tech bulliton from l/r on noisey crank signal on td5 it was to fit a spacer plate on the sensor
Bringing up an old post but having issues...
Vehicle is showing all the signs of crank ankle sensor fault however when I plug in the nanocom and also another diagnostic tool in no faults appear... Any ideas?
I haven't had a problem personally, but I recall posts where problem starts off intermittent. Bad when hot, good when cold. Pouring cold water on a hot sensor can make it come good for a while. As such it's not surprising thati the Nanocom isn't registering a fault.
Thanks that sounds about right! I think I will chuck a new sensor in and have a good look over the wiring while I'm at it

Yep new sensor sorted the problem! Nearly fell over when I had to pay for the part though! Genuine at retail was over $400!
