    County, front recovery points ...

    Looking to locate a couple bow shackles at the front of the County ... saw a couple of holes ( A and B ) already available in the front dumb irons and wondered if these would be suitable straight from the chassis ... or would I be better of rigging something off the front bull bar?

    Maybe consider some jate rings..........

    Hi Simon, I have not long been thru the front recovery points seach and have found a mob in Victoria who make really good ones. 4X4 Intelegence (http://www.4x4intelligence.com.au/), they attach to the bumper mounting bolts and are very substantial. I dont have any pictures at present but the website used to have them up.

    There is a problem AFAIK in finding somewhere to mount Jate rings etc when you alrady have an ARB bar (or similar) in place.

    I'd be fasincated to hear options though.

    Wouldn't be a problem in my case ... you can see the locating bolts for the bottom of my bull bar in the images I provided. I'm thinking of doing the same thing as pictured in the first image that Rijidij posted which is position B in my pictures. It would go straight in ...

    No, not my vehicle in the pic. I just linked to some pics I found.
    I do have a pair, but haven't fitted them yet.

    Personally I am not a fan of jate rings. Even used with a bridle between them I would be worried. They also rely on the strength of the bolt, rather than most bolted joints which rely on the friction between two mating surfaces, rather than the bolts directly.

    However, when I fitted my bullbar, I noticed that the crush tubes are larger than the bolt holes. On my 1987 110 I found I could drill the bolt holes out to 1/2" without damaging the crush tubes. Doing this will almost double the strength of the attachment. I doubt most jate rings can be drilled out to 1/2" though, so you may have to make custom ones.

    Instead of jate rings, I modified (laminated) the eyes on my ARB bullbar to make them strong enough. The main laminating piece extends back to the same bolt used to attach the jate ring (plus is fully welded), then there are 2 additional bolts per side holding the bullbar (and hence recovery points) on.

    Note that bolt hole A in tiki's pic is usually the first place on a landie to rust out (non galvanised chassis of course..), so I would be wary using it as an attachment for a recovery point.
