    Maxi Drive Locker install

I'm finally getting round to installing a rear diff with maxi drive locker I purchaced a while ago

I have a 98 Disco 1 and the diff is from a RRC I have a tailshaft to fit the 4 bolt pinion rather than the Rubber donut

2 questions is there anything else I need to be aware of that might not match up between the 2 cars ?

2nd Whats the best way to get a vacum from the 300tdi for the locker, it came with a small tank just wondering if I can use the vacum from the engine or if I should get a separate pump

    Cheers

Radius arms/mounts/bushes (assuming front locker) may also be different.

The 300Tdi, like all diesels, produces no vacuum. You have an engine driven vacuum pump on the RHS of the engine block. That provides vacuum for the brakes. You will need to tap into the line between the vacuum pump and the booster.

You can use low pressure (~15 psi) compressed air to work the locker if you prefer.

Install ideas, as per my RRC and a D1 I helped setup.Vacuum tank, on drivers side of engine bay, in front of brake booster, towards fuses, fed by t'd vacuum line to boosterVacuum lines go down along top of chassis to A frame, down A frame to Diff, along Diff to MD actuator. We put all the tubes into that black auto electrical wiring conduit stuff, and used hose clamps to attach to A frame (do not do up too tight as you will crush the vacuum lines) Used cable ties to tie to chassis seam all the way down.Used electrical vacuum actuator sitting just beside the vacuum tank, that way, inside vehicle just had a push pull switch. Remember that the vacuum is used to hold the diff in the disengaged position and in the engaged position. When engaged, the little dash light wire is earthed at the diff end.Hope this helps.

No, that is incorrect. There is a detent that holds the actuator in either position. If you lock(/unlock) a maxi-drive, then disconnect the lines it will stay locked(/unlocked).

I take it what you mean to say is that vacuum is used to both lock and unlock the diff, whereas in a diff like an ARB or Ashcroft they use pressure to lock, and when the pressure is release the springloaded locking mechanism returns to the unlock position.

Depending on the MY of RRC to the 98 Disco you may have a mismatch of threads Metric V Imperial/unf/unc whatever on the brake line fittings, Regards Frank.

My plan was to keep the existing calipers from what I can tell the brackets for the brakes are still the same

Try searching on here, I'm pretty sure I got my copy off here. If no luck I'm sure I've got a copy on my computer at home.
